Psarians

One of my Capes & Rayguns space races, a xenohuman race, is the Psarians. Xenohumans are humans but not of earth extraction. They are genetically similar enough to interbreed with other earth-extract humans or other xenohumans, but remain as distinct ethnic groups, even farther from each other than earth ethnic groups, because more time has passed in genetic separation—although more recently there has, obviously, been some mingling as these races have come back into contact with each other after millennia of separation. It's clear that at some point in the distant past all of these human races come from some common source—probably Earth?—but that may just be the ego of Earth-extraction humans, who made up the bulk of the Marian Empire population and are mostly the movers and shakers over the broadest swathe of Known Space.

The Psarians are the red race. Visually, they are much like the Sith species from SWTOR in terms of coloration. What they lack is, of course, the fleshy beards and bony spines on their faces (two of the male Sith faces look sort of like this, and of course, those are the two that I've used for characters). Although they do have sharper "eagle-eyed" features, they otherwise look like people, even moreso than the SWTOR sith species characters, but otherwise look very much like them. The only other difference is that Psarians are most likely to have bright blue eyes (which Sith cannot even have, I don't believe) although the clearer "white eyes" and red eyes are also common. However, the Psarians come from deep within Republic space, and by and large, they have embraced its corrupt vision of envy, entitlement and sloth, i.e., they're basically Leftist foreigners demanding that other people pay for them. I didn't literally intend for them to be a metaphor for that, it just kind of happened naturally. The Jaffans, another xenohuman race, are more like the AWFLs. But again; the association developed organically; they weren't created as a metaphor.

Because of that, I actually want to have populations of Psarians around that aren't just entitled migrants living off of the taxpayer proceeds of Earth-extraction humans and complaining about racism or colonialism—as they literally colonize worlds already inhabited by Earth-extraction humans. Psarians have a large population of r-selected weirdos, but they have other populations, or at least individuals, who are more K-strategists either because of the conditions in which they live, or because they've gone through a genetic selection pressure, and the r-strategists have either left or died off.

But of course, I would never tell the stories of gammas or r-strategists, because they suck and I tend to feel contempt for them in real life. So, unless they're characters in the background, my Psarians will come from more aggressive, masculine pockets of Psarians who aren't looking for a free ride, but may well be looking for allies.

That said, I'm not sure that I have any Psarian characters in mind. I did have some iconics, or possibly characters that I would write stories about, in my mind a couple of years ago when I was more actively working on setting development here, but none of them were Psarians. I think I've started to feel more like I want to use one because of the Sith species and its place in the SWTOR game, of course. I've enjoyed my playthroughs with Anstal and Saxon. Anstal recently finished his story, and Saxon recently started his. I'm a little on the fence with character Gaul Pavanik, who I haven't built yet, if I want to make him look more like Saxon or Anstal and create him as a Sith species hunter, or if I want to use the new Mirialan colors and make him a red Mirialan.
